I plan on buying one of those expensive front hoop kits soon enough, but right now I'm working on tying in the stock fenderwell roll bar on my 77 CJ5. The rear of the roll bar will be easy enough, but the front of it looks problematic. It seems to me that this would be the area that will need the most reinforcement...but running a support up the inside of the fenderwell won't work because of clearance issues with the rear tires. The only other idea I've yet had is to run something up on the inside of the tub and weld a flat plate to the top of it to attach to the roll bar, but that will cut down on the already limited rear seat legroom. Any other ideas? The front seats are pushed all the way back against the tub, so running a bar up behind them is out too.

/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif Hmmmm.....I can't exactly picture the CJ5 setup......our CJ7 drops just behind and outboard of the front seats. I did consider plating the wheel houses just in the front and a ways back to make a pad for the roll bar....the plates would meet and the pad would weld to the top of them./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif

Cut a few inches out behind the front seats so the back of the front seats rests against where the tub rises up to form the wheelwell. The rollbar currently just rests on top of the flat part of the tub...on a piece of sheet that runs the length of the wheelwell, and is about 4" wide.

What I would do if I was you kid, is make a VERTICAL plated area in the inside of that "wheel house" that also ties to the flat plate on top......and have a couple of ribs in the verticals wherever you can fina place that they aren't in the way. By doing that, you can transfer the pressure to the frame where the tub sits on it./wwwthreads_images/icons/crazy.gif
