Identifying MPI computer

Is there any way of telling what year and transmission an MPI computer is for. I found one but all I could find out is that its supposed to be out of an 82 cherokee. There are no part numbers on the outside. Can get numbers of some of the chips inside if anyone knows what to look for... Thanks

Re: Identifying MPI computer

'82? No EFI on Jeeps that year! What does it look like? Black plastic with 3 mounting screw holes and a 60 pin connector is the type used in '91-'95 MPI 4.0s. If the tag is missing, the only way to read part number is to plug it into a vehicle and read the number with a DRB scantool. There are probably 50 different 4.0 controllers that look the same, along with 100s for 4 cylinder, V6s, V8s, V10s, ETC. based on the same SBEC controller! Ther is no chip to change calibration, either. Get a guarantee, or don't buy it. Otherwise, it's good for a core on an exchange rebuilt unit. Hope this helps, good luck!
