Cherokee Destroyed but how about parts

a local junk yard i know of just got a 96 cherokee 4.0 that was completely destroyed by a fire, is their anything that might not have gotten damaged from it? i was thinking about doing a 4.0 head to 4.2 swap? would the head get damaged by the heat at all? and would the engine be ok from the fire if i just stripped out all the electronic and plastic stuff and just took the block itself, or should i just not mess with it?
thanks guys!

Re: Cherokee Destroyed but how about parts

You could have the head inspected by a head-machine shop. Most bone yards have a warrenty period. cost $10-15 like insurance. If no good take it back. I think the wiring melt down and all the sensors would cost a small fortune to replace if you went with the entire engine. I am trying the 4.0 head swap myself. costs are $150 for the head complete, new valve cover $95, $180 for new exhaust man, 3 angle valve job $95 plus labor to install.
