Tapping a CJ windshield frame

For some odd known reason, a new found buddy of mine wants to swap roll bars out-right (his '95 for my '84 CJ-7). My obvious problem is that I don't have the threaded windshield frame to accommodate the front bars. He said it is easy to tap them. Has anyone done this? Is it easy? Any tips?

Re: Tapping a CJ windshield frame

Take the roll bar before your buddy changes his mind. You can figure out how to tap it later. You could use an item called a plusnut. WeatherGuard ladder racks come with these from the factory and they can be bought at any weatherguard dealer. They work like a molly bolt but are designed for automotive use.

These things come in many different sizes. You can figer this all out later.
