CV Drive Shaft?

I just got a D20 from a 72 Waggy and it has the CV front drive shaft attached! I am going to try to install the front CV into my rear driveshaft, Has any one tried this? I think the front and rear t-case yokes are the same? Should work? Thanks:

Re: CV Drive Shaft?

It depends on the brand of CV drive shaft. Most likely you will need a different output yoke on your transfer case. On mine, they look exactly the same but they are just different enough to require the different yoke. I would suggest 6 States Dist for the yoke unless you have a local drive train shop.

Re: CV Drive Shaft?

The front and rear yokes should both be 10 spline. The parts catalog shows them as being the same front and rear on a cj which means no cv. But if you get another cv yoke, you can bolt it on the rear output and use a cv driveshaft.

Re: CV Drive Shaft?

We've done this one a couple times. If you're bolting this to a D300 you need a fine 23 spline yoke. One from a late 79 and newer Q-trac waggy(front) will do. The yoke is about $48 new. For D20 the 10 spline; early 79 waggy and older, works. Our shop will shorten and balance for $50, its a bargain upgrade.
