Temp Guage Sensor and wire color

I installed a Howell TBI system on my '87 YJ on Sunday and since then have not had a temp. guage. I think we might have cut the wire going from the sensor to the guage when we were cutting out all the extra wiring from the harness. Two Questions. First, where on the engine block is the sensor that the guage uses to measure the temp? Also, does anyone know what color the wire from the temp guage to the sensor is and how it is all hooked up. I don't want to overheat or anything. I was thinking of just getting a new guage and mounting it somewhere, might be easier then figuring this all out. I'm kind of an amateur and am not too sure, so if anyone can please direct me in where to start looking and what to do, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Re: Temp Guage Sensor and wire color

The sending unit is located on the drivers side of the engine way at the back. Its threaded into the head, just follow the manifolds where they bolt to the head and you cant miss it. I just looked and the wire appears to be purple. Hope this helps
