Re: year of body
Pretty much all CJ-5's say Jeep on the side. I can't remember if the M38a1's do but don't think so. Basically from '1955 on up it should say Jeep. If it doesn't then it is probably an aftermarket body. If It says Willy's then that would be highly unusual unless it was a WW2 Script body flat fender and the Willy's was normally on the back in the left rear, same place Ford had the Script on the GPW's. The tailgates interchange from the '45 CJ-2a until the 1975 CJ. (all universals) so someone could have put it on. Can't go by the tailgate to tell what year it is. If it has an underseat tank, F-head motor, Ross steering (although it is common to change to Saginaw steering), short CJ style fenders, and has an 81" wheel base with offset, two piece axled dana 44 rear and a Dana 25 front, probably 5.38 gears, and probably top mounted wipers on the windshield, with a tool box under the passenger seat, then it is probably a '59. I have a '59 CJ-5 and a '59 CJ-6 myself. Have fun with your new toy! Nickmil.
