Carb? problems?

Ive finally got my project jeep finished, but it seems to have a problem when actually running. Problem is whenever the jeep is at mid to wide open throttle if detonates like crazy and starts hesitating like its not gettting enuff gas when the secondaries open. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Re: Carb? problems?

Is the carb clean ? If it's been sitting very long it could be gummed-up. Is the fuel pump pushing a good flow ?
I'd pull the fuel line and see how the pump is doing, if it's good, I'd pull the top off the carb, and take a look.

Re: Carb? problems?

Sounds like a timing problem. You're saying it's pinging, right? I'd look into your vac advance and/or timing.

More info will get you a more useful response, as well. What engine? What carb? mech. or elec. fuel pump? How's your timing set? Do you have a vac advance? Manifold or ported vacuum, etc., etc.

Good luck
Pete
