What would be the best Scout rear end to put in my CJ-7. I have a chance to buy a 1966 with 4:89 gears but what years did they come with the 30 spline shafts and one piece shafts.

Thanks Bill

Re: Dana 44

Starting in about mid year of the 1970 model production, the Dana 44's started showing up with one piece 30 spline axles.

Look for axles from 75 to 80. Make sure they are Dana 44s, some Scouts came with a model 30 front. How did clocking your t-case work out Bill4x4?

Re: Dana 44

For a D-44 rear you can also look for a 70(?)-up Commando (look for the boxy ones that no one but me seems to like) or 72-75 CJ. Both are 30 spline flanged axle units. The commando rear is a bolt in, you would have to move the perches on the CJ.

72 CJ-5: 305 Chevy; SM420; D-300; 30/44 with 5.38's, Warn axles, and Detroits
