Steering Box Rebuild?

How hard is it to rebuild a steering box on a 78 CJ7 w/ 304? Or a new one? Where do I find some rebuilt units and/or kits. Thanks

Re: Steering Box Rebuild?

NAPA should have a rebuild kit for about $35. The hardest part of the rebuild.... gettin' that darn Pitman arm off.

Re: Steering Box Rebuild?

Do not even try to rebuilt a saginaw box, too many small parts. Its cheaper to go to a yard and pull off a fairly new Gm vehicle with low miles.

Re: Steering Box Rebuild?

Gotta agree with brownbagg, I had mine done last year, took a look at the way those things are put together, all the balls and such, had it done by a pro, what a difference. There are very few things I won't do myself, steering boxes are one of those few.
