What kinda CJ is this?

Driving home the other day I saw what looked like a CJ-5 but with a non removeable steel hardtop and full steel doors. At a glance I thought DJ-5 but upon closer inspection I think it might not be. The top has rectangular side windows and the back had the DJ style door but narower with two vertical oval windows. One on either side of the rear door. It had hubcaps and apeared to be 2wd. It was left hand drive. Everything looked original including paint. Is this an early DJ or somethig comepletely differant?

Re: What kinda CJ is this?

Hey Andytron,
That's a good question. I believe these were light duty CJ-5's given to companies in the 50's and 60's. I have their specific title in a book, which I don't have right now. One of these exists at an old gas station here in Madison, WI. My guess is that they're as useful as a DJ, as far as strength. The one at the gas station has been used as a plow since 1953! That's lasting Jeep action!

Re: What kinda CJ is this?

Hey Andy,
It could also be a FJ Jeep, which was a DJ chassis with a van like body.
They were also manufactured in the 50s and early 60s for the Post Office, mainly. Essentially they were DJ-3As or DJ-5s with a stepvan body and their designations were FJ-3A and FJ-5.(There may have been a few FJ-6s made , too but they would be VERY rare.) To my recollection, they were all 2wd, like the DJs were and had the L-head 4cyl 134 cid MB/GPW engine. I remember a fellow saying he had bought one over on the Jeepster/Commando Forum a while back.
