Free Scout--Worth the trouble?
 
I found a rusted out late '60s scout with no motor. It has a T-90a tranny with some sort of twin stick t-case and what appeared to be 44s front and rear. Same lug pattern as my CJ couldn't tell what gears. It also had some sort of ball joint that attached the knuckles in front. Thanks for the help.

Can you fix it?

[img]/wwwthreads_images/icons/tongue.gif[/img] Four years ago, before we got either one of our Jeeps, I drove past a wrecked scout every day for months. Little did I know that the axles were of great value, and it finally was hauled off by some junkie. NOT VERY SMART OF ME. LOTS of the early front axles were closed knuckle. I grew up with all WW II army trucks and power wagons which were all the ball-joint type of closed knuckle. When I saw my first open u-joint front axle I was shocked and thought it looked to "exposed", too vulnerable to go through three feet of mud and cow crap to feed cattle in the winter time. I have NO IDEA what that transfer case is, but the Scout BBS can probably clear that up. OR....you can market the parts over there and get some Jeep $$$[img]/wwwthreads_images/icons/smile.gif[/img]

The t-case is apparently a Scout Dana 18. Anybody wants any of this stuff I can get it but I have to take the whole vehicle.

Does it have flanged or tapered rear axle shafts? The flanged came into play in '69, with 3.31, 3.73, and 4.27 ratios. Prior to '69 they were the tapered 2-piece design with 3.73, 4.27. 4.88 ratios. The front is a D27 up to '66, '67 and up were D30 with D27 ends, both drum front brakes. This is all provided there wasn't a swap involved at some point. Can you find a year? Some of the fronts had Power Lok LSD, but '69 and up didn't, they were open. The rear were all Power Lok LSD's, no open carriers. The Scout II body style came into play in '71. The axles are all Dana, there should be a tag attached to the cover bolt on the carriers. Can you see anything that says Scout 80 (hinged windshield), 800, 800A, or 800B?
