We just lost 500 square miles of fun!

The new Sequoia National Monument extends over 328,000 acres, one-third of
the national forest or 513 square miles. It comes in two parcels, one
north of Sequoia National Park bordered by the Kings Wild and Scenic River
and one south of the park bordered by the North Fork Kern Wild and Scenic

Most NONMOTORIZED recreation uses can continue, the White House said.
"Roads will remain open and full public access will be permitted for
hiking, camping, hunting, fishing, biking, river rafting, horseback riding,
and other types of NONMOTORIZED recreation," said the White House.

But Council on Environmental Quality Chairman George Frampton cautioned at
a White House briefing that motorized recreation could be curtailed. Said
Frampton, "The issue that I addressed is off-road vehicles - motorcycles,
three-wheelers - and like the other national monuments that the
President has proclaimed in many other forested areas, the proclamation
provides that off-road vehicles have to stay on designated roads. So the
management plan itself will say which roads will stay, which will be put to
bed or closed off, and which will be appropriate for off-road vehicles. So
there will be a limitation on off-road vehicles, on motorcycles."

The Blue Ribbon Coalition said the monument designation "appears to ban
family-oriented recreational use of sport-utility vehicles, four-wheel
drives, mountain-bikes, off-road motorcycles, and all-terrain vehicles to
access 328,000 acres of the Sequoia National Forest in California."

Your elected officials at work.

You mean your democrap liberal Klintunoid tree-hugging enviro-nazis at work? How's THAT for some adjectives? Do not think for ONE MINUTE that limited use means ANY use. The forest service is interested in doing just oNE thing, keeping you OUT of the forest....period.

Ron, if you don't like what is happening then get involved in the fight. There's plenty you, as an individual can do. It's just like
voting, the one vote alone isn't much, but combined they are very powerful.

Go to the Sierra Clubs website and click on the Sequia link and leave an email thanking him for CLOSING/protecting the sequoias in the form window. I did. Maybe my anger forced me to use too many colorful words so think about what you have to say. It may not get to him but someone will read it knowing that it was aimed at him.

Please believe me when I tell you that I have been very involved in this.
You see, I am what is called an "inholder", that is, I own property that
is within the boundries of the National Forest. The exact kind of property
that the CARA land grab is aiming for. The same property that Clinton's
monuments are squeezing out.

Just before Christmas last year, the Forest Service held a public meeting
in Los Angeles, a hot bed of 4X activity. Know how many of our brothers
showed up for the meeting; eight. Yep, that's right. The meeting I was
at had eight supporters show up. This compared to the busloads that the
Sierra Club bussed in from San Francisco. Where was United 4X? Where
was Cal 4X? Where was Blue Ribbon? Nowhere to be seen. There was
a handful of bikers from AMA, a couple of ATC riders, one guy from
Off-Road.com (who didn't speak), and one stinkin' Jeeper (me). Go figure.

Don't let em take OUR forests. Although we sometime deserve it with
our apathy.

Re: We just lost 500 square miles of fun!

Well said Ron!!!!! I get sick and tired of all the whining and crying coming from within our camp - when most of ones who cry the loudest are too lazy to pick up their own trash off a trail . . . let alone use energy to excercise the political process to protect our sport! A liberal never misses an opportunity to further their cause - even if it means sacrificing a little to capialize on that opportunity. Think about it!!!! If you are eligible and don't vote and if you are able yet won't even make your voice heard at the local level, then shut your mouth . . . because YOU are part of the problem!

Liberals don't mind being lied to . . . they just want to be lied to by someone they trust!
