Potential YJ dash fire, help, ideas?

I was out driving my Jeep around yesterday when I started smelling plastic burning. I looked down under the stearing wheel and saw a flickering light. I thought there was a fire under the stearing wheel. I jumped out and looked under there. It was the utility light glowing a bit in some random pulsating manor. Problems, the door was closed so the light shouldn't be coming on, the wires are disconnected from the door switch anyway since I have the doors off all summer, the wires weren't touching each other. I turned the Jeep off and was watching the light glow. I drove home and disconnected the battery. Now I have to start tearing the dash apart and look for a short. Any ideas. I was thinking of at least stripping all the utility light wiring out of there since I don't use them anyway. Thanks.

I don't know the specific problem with your jeep, but I'm seeing a lot of mid 80's to mid 90's jeeps burned out in the junk yards.
Wonder what's up with that?...
