fuel sending unit

The gauge is acting up on my cj. It reads empty but every now and then it reads accurate. I put a test light on the + going to the sending unit and it is flashing, just like the turn signal. Is this normal?

Re: fuel sending unit

Hi,

The flashing is normal.. This is the regulated voltage supply inside the gauge. Check the ground wire on the sending unit that attaches to the body and make sure the body is grounded properly. Maybe run a new ground to the body from the battery to make sure.

Also check http://www.monsterslayer.com/jeep/Gauges.htm

Re: fuel sending unit

Mine did the same thing as yours. Turned out to be a bad sender. It had a bad spot in the windings. I would recommend to you to drop the tank and look at yours. While I've never seen a jeep (or anything) burn up from this MINE LOOKED WAY SCAREY!!!!! It was crispy dark and had been real hot. It burned through the windings on it. Scared the hell outta me. So it might be worth the time to take a look.

Re: fuel sending unit

I hate the thought of dropping the tank, the tank and sender are only 1-2 years old.
