Home Made TJ Rocker Protection

I have decided to make a set of rocker guards for my TJ out of 3/16" or 1/4" angle iron. I don't want my rockers to look like my buddy's black TJ that has both sides mashed. I take better lines. My question concerns the area benieth the Jeep just next to the edge of the rocker. It is not flat and hangs lower than the outer edge. I want to the angle iron as tight to the edge as possible for the most strength. That would indicat that I would have to trim the angle underneith up to a few inches. I can make a cardboard template then use a torch. Have any of you had experience with this process or have built your own? Thanks for the advice.

Rick

an easier way would be to attach the angle iron to the frame? sure beats cutting the body (i think thats what you wanted to cut)

I am not refering to cutting the body. I may have to trim the angle iron that fits under the tub due to the bulbous mounting area on the tub for the body mounts. That area gets wider and deeper towards the front. Rick

Re: Home Made TJ Rocker Protection

Rick, that sounds like a good start. If the tub areas that drop down (where you want to cut the angle) are say 1/4"-1/2" difference, you could cut a "shim" to level these spots. This could in turn be welded to your angle. All this would make it flush, hopefully eliminating any places to snag. Then again, it would also increase the weight of your protection. How were you planning on mounting it? Bolts thru the tub or arms that tie into the tub mounts?
