Anyone else have Mud King problems?

We have 33x12.5 Mud Kings on our Jeep that we bought last July. A buddy of ours bought the same tire last October & has his Jeep as a daily driver. He told us a few weeks ago about how his tires were seperating down the center of the tire between the tread -badly. And we looked at ours (which isn't a daily driver mostly just used for trails & fun), and sure enough you could see small cracks that almost looked like dry-rot. Anyway, we took the tires to our dealer, who measured them & found that we had only used 1/32 off the tread (which is really surprising 'cause we have been wheeling a good bit with them) and is going to credit us with the cost of the tires - or give us new Mud Kings (we are getting BFG's instead) Anyway, just wondering if anyone else had this problem, and if you have Mud Kings purchased recently you may want to check.

Re: Anyone else have Mud King problems?

Mel,
I have had Mud Kings on my rig for three years and no problems and I really beat on them, they are full of cuts and nicks and they still work fine. Will I be buying another set when these wear out?? H**l ya, at $80 a pop you cant beat that.

I do the same thing every weekend, its just the location where I do it that changes!

Re: Anyone else have Mud King problems?

FYI , that is called " channel cracking" and occurs when someone SCREWED up in the mfg`ing process . Usually not enough rubber in the crown section

Re: Anyone else have Mud King problems?

I don't know where he found his for $80, but the ones that I got last year were around $110 for 33x12.5's. I got them at my local small town tire store. My buddy got his at another tire store for about the same price.

Re: Anyone else have Mud King problems?

I payed about $110 for the 33's on mine. From first hand experience, (I have been under the jeep constantly in the last couple of weeks doing modifications) I have not found any cracking of the tires. The shop I do business with is an American Car Care Tire affiliate. I grew up with the owner, and have been doing business with them for 30 years.

Re: Anyone else have Mud King problems?

Must have been just a bad batch shipped to this area at that time, we were happy with the tires, just noticed the cracking - interesting about the discrepencies in the pricing, but it kinda doesn't matter now for me 'cause I'll be getting a credit for the amount I paid to go against the BFG's I'm getting instead. It'll be interesting too, it will be the BFG MT vs. Goodyear MT/R long-term showdown between our two jeeps 'cause both sets are new.
