Toyota axles under a flatty

What do you guys think about putting (narrow track) Toyota axles under a flatfender? Mostly what I'd like to know is how wide the stance is? The only flatfender that I know of with Toy axles is Chris Olson's green flatty, and he dosen't have any pictures from straight on so I can't get a look at the stance.

The "narrow track" Toyota axles are 55" wide where as the stock flatfender axles are like 51" wide.

I'm looking to get a 2a or 3a so I'm just thinking of axle ideas right now. Also, if anyone has any pictures of a flatfender with Toyota running gear please post them. Oh yea, I'm thinking of running 33/10.5 SS radials.

Although I like d18 t-cases I wouldn't be using using one with the Toy rear axle (of course). The Jeep would be SOA on fairly flat springs.

Please no lectures about Japanese axles under a Jeep.

Re: Toyota axles under a flatty

I honestly don't know anyone personally that has done this and have only read bits and pieces about doing this. But I was under the impression that the rear axle was pretty stout but the front wasn't too hot of an axle.

The fronts are strong if you get the birfield eliminator(it converts it to u joints but I don't know how). Ive seen plenty of toyotas on bigger tires than 33s and the ground clearance is amazing. 2" on each side doesn't seem like a lot.

Ya, I sold it some time back. Kinda wish I hadn't. Could of still been wheeling while I get this Willys built.

Re: Toyota axles under a flatty

Hey, What about one of those electric locking rear axle off a newer Tacoma. I think they are 58" and come on the off-road package.

I'm on here so much, I have carpal tunnel reader syndrone.
