ax=pos...
try here for some info http://www.jeepgod.net/mantranguide.html

that is an application guide.. most jeep 5 speeds are decent behind 6 cyl.. but not worth to much behind a v-8..

Re: Jeep Transmissions?

The Peugot trans used in 80s Wranglers is garbage, it is the worst trans Jeep ever used, worse than the SR4. And it is horribly expensive to fix. The AX15 is a decent trans, probably better than the T5 used in 80s CJs.

Re: Jeep Transmissions?

The Pugeot tranny is also reffered to as the BA-10. I happen to be lucky enought to have on in my 89. It's been the biggest pain that I've had. Deffinately try to stay away from it.

Re: Jeep Transmissions?

Mikecj7 - the T-5 that is a pos is not the world class that you have. It's a totally different animal.

Re: Jeep Transmissions?

I broke my BA-10 (89 YJ) in a little more than a year of 'wheeling it. I was beating on my Jeep pretty hard for a while there though! However it broke when I was just bumping along through some palmetto tree stumps at 600rpms. Never came out of first after that!...

Re: Jeep Transmissions?

In 89 Chrysler switched from the BA-10 (used until 3/89) to the AX-15 (used after 3/89). But during the transition
some YJ's got the AX-5 (four cylinder trans.) behind the I6. Mine did, it has been pretty good, but I only have
31 X 10.50 inch tires. I don't know how it would hold up with bigger tires. I do know that Advance Adapters
does not recommend putting a 350 in front of it though.
