TR Upgrade Question

OK, I have assembled all of the parts to do the TR upgrade on my 77 CJ5 with a 304. Currently has the Prestolite so evrything is getting swapped out. My question is about the resistor. When using the TFI coil do or don't I put a resistor between the ignition switch and coil. If yes, is there any special resistor that I need to use? Can I splice a factory Ford type resistor wire in there? Will the GM ceramic type resistor work. Hope to start on this soon so any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Uh... Is that suppose to look like that?

Re: TR Upgrade Question

Answers in order:

Yes, if the vehicle does NOT NOW have one.

Yes, you need to drop the voltage to about 8.7 volts, that's specific and if you use a resistor wire you'll Wells (autozone, discount auto, carpars.com etc.) F795 resistor. If you're using wire you'll need to get it long enough that you can cut it down a bit to come to the correct voltage.

Yes, Factory Ford type resistor wire should work.

Yes, GM seramic type resistors should work if thier the correc value.
