73 CJ gas tanks

I,m due for a new gas tank I have done some looking and found 15 gal steel replacements for $80.00.
I have also found 15 gal polyethylene for $119.00 and 20 gal polyethylene for $189.00 (requires a modified skid plate). My questions are what are the pros and cons of polyethylene vs steel? And what would you the board members recommend?

Re: 73 CJ gas tanks

Just an idea, but I have an '85 CJ7. I put in a 20 gal. poly tank from a CJ-8 for $30. I thought it was the stock unit. I picked up the box it sits in as well but a skid plate could be easily formed.

Re: 73 CJ gas tanks

I guess the biggest advantage I can see to using a poly tank is the fact that it won't ever rust!! Where I live anyway, that is a BIG bonus factor. Water somehow gets in between the skid plate and bottom of the tank, and well, the rest is history.
