the dust shields on the rotors for m 8.8 are bent and bashed

should i remove or replace?

Your call.
They are not strong enough to really give you any impact protection. Occaisionaly you will get a small rock caught in between the dust shield and the rotor, which can produce a sound equivelant to grinding your finger nails on a chalk board. They make really good "mud storage containers", though. I dont like em, but I still have mine on for some reason or another.
