As far as I know, all speedo cables since the 1940's in the US have the same kind of ends. That's because there are only 3 or 4 manufacturers of mechanical speedometers (Stewart-Warner, VDO, King-Seeley, etc) and a few manufacturers of trannys/tcases (Borg-Warner, Clark, New Process, Peterbuilt, Spicer/Dana...). They all use the same standard. You can buy a kit from Napa that lets you cut it to the right length. $40 doesn't seem that expensive, though. I think that's about typical.
