Speedo Cable

Can any of you guys tell me if a speddo cable off an older Jeep (any kind I really dont care) will fit my wrangler. I have been told that the new ones are a dealer only item and the dealer wants $40 for one. There has got to be something out there off of another application that will fit, does anybody what it is??

I do the same thing every weekend, its just the location where I do it that changes!

Re: Speedo Cable

As far as I know, all speedo cables since the 1940's in the US have the same kind of ends. That's because there are only 3 or 4 manufacturers of mechanical speedometers (Stewart-Warner, VDO, King-Seeley, etc) and a few manufacturers of trannys/tcases (Borg-Warner, Clark, New Process, Peterbuilt, Spicer/Dana...). They all use the same standard. You can buy a kit from Napa that lets you cut it to the right length. $40 doesn't seem that expensive, though. I think that's about typical.
