My Signal won\'t cancel after turning?

Last night my turn signal on my 97 TJ stopped canceling out after I turn right? I removed my Airbag and steering to see if I could find out what was broken, but I have to admit I have never worked on the steering of a newer car, so it was kinda new to me. I guess my question is, does anyone know what I might need to replace so I can pick it up on my way home from work tonight. My manual doesn't say anything about this problem and I searched past postings to see if anyone had similar problems, but I had no luck.

Thank you in advance

Re: My Signal won\'t cancel after turning?

Hi upset,

I have exactly the same problem with my CJ. I don't know wether the setup is similar, but in the turn signal switch there are two small springs, that are activated by a cam. On my switch, one of those springs is missing. Have a look at the turn signal switch and see if those springs are there or have got unseated.

And for gods sake be careful removing that air bag. Static from your bodie could set it of. It may not hurt all that bad if it goes off, but it's gonna cost money to replace.

That is why I refuse to buy a Jeep new enough to need (by law) an airbag. I have only owned one Jeep with a colapsable column (and it wasn't original), let alone an airbag.

Re: My Signal won\'t cancel after turning?

The TJ's break the spring inside the switch all the time, changing your conbination switch should fix it. You DO NOT have to pull the air bag or steering wheel. Remove the 3 phillips screws that hold the plastic cover on the steering column, then and you can see that only 3 torx screws hold the whole assembly on, and the wires just plug into it. It only takes about 15 minutes, and probably a $70 part.
