78 258 valve cover tightening sequence

Is there a particular pattern to tightening the valve cover down? Mine has developed a leak and I figured I'd try backing all the bolts off and re-tightening it first.

And on that topic, is orange RTV a suitable sealent for this (metal cover) or should I locate a new gasket if tightening doesn't help?

Thanx

Re: 78 258 valve cover tightening sequence

I've heard that you should start in the middle and work your way to the ends alternating sides. Kind of like the same sequence that you torque down a head. Tighten them down a little at a time so that maybe like 3 passes around will get them tight. This way you won't warp or crack the cover.
