Howell TBI and MSD Ignition

I noticed in the Howell installation instructions it mentions connecting the TBI to the stock duraspark ignition module. My question is, I have upgraded to the MSD 6A Ignition and have cut out the stock ignition. Is this compatible to the Howell setup? Also, I have done the TR TFI upgrade. Will this affect anything? Thanks.

Re: Howell TBI and MSD Ignition

The GM/Howell TBI computer uses the trigger pulse from the ignition to be fed to the computer to generate a pulse to the injectors. This is good old stock early TBI technology. It's simple and works. The MSD of the name stands for Multiple Spark Discharge... and does just that. The MSD ignition pulses the spark plug a multiple of times over the dwell cycle of the plug.

That's the problem with a MSD and a Howell.

The MSD produces multipe ignition pulses which if unfiltered will multi pulse the injectors. This can get really messy. So how do you cure the problem and use this ignition?

It's simple. Call up Howell Techincal Support and ask for a filter for the MSD ignition. They'll be glad to lighten you wallet a little, and you'll have a working EFI system.

Re: Howell TBI and MSD Ignition

I called up Howell and you were right, they have a filter they include with the kit and if you let them know you have MSD they will include that appropriate filter. Thanks for the advice.
