MileMarker winch for $400 - would you do it?

I can get a 10,500# MileMarker for $400. I know this will probably bring up the electric versus hydraulic debate, but I can't beat the price. What does everyone think?

Re: MileMarker winch for $400 - would you do it?

I would get it.

I have been trying to talk someone who has one into making a separate setup for the pump. You know, take a small motor like a weedeater and mount it high and dry in the engine compartment(for that matter make it able to release and put some extra hose wound up under it if you need it) mount it to a hydro. pump(look at pierce sales they have pumps if you are interested). Just need to make sure that the motor turns fast enough for the pump. Make a small metal frame and use press on pullys to turn a belt which will turn the pump. And presto you have a great winch.

If you really get into it you could get even more high tech. Put a york on there as well and run onboard air. Get a motor with electric start and you can turn it on from inside your vehicle. You could even wire it with a switch to turn on when the air tank psi falls low.

Ultimate setup in my opinion. Totally separate, won't tax the vehicles electrical system. Two cycle motors are easy to work on, and don't cost that much.

I guess I'm going to disagree. No offense intended at all, are we really talking a 2-cycle gas engine mounted somewhere in the jeep to run the winch? . Either way, a motor that runs a pump that runs a winch is more stuff to break than a motor that runs a winch.

Personally, I think the ultimate setup is a dual battery system, good electric winch, high output alternator, and a motor-mounted york, or a really good electric pump, for air. There are so many good electric winches, dual battery setups, and simple high-output alternators available.

Just my opinion
Good luck

I don't think you should buy it. Let me know where it is, and I will come and get to remove the temptation. That thing would be great on the front of my 77' Chevy.

I guess that answers my question. For the price, I can't go wrong. If I don't like it I may just put it up for auction here on the board - then go by me a Warn.

Does it come with the hoses and pump? If not, check out the prices on that stuff before you buy it. A guy in our club got a hydraulic winch free, but spent $600 hooking it onto his jeep, not a lot of savings there if the winch already costs you $400.

It comes with everything except the hose connections to the power steering pump - those are vehicle specific. They cost about $30.
