Wheel Washers?

What are wheel washers for? I saw them in the summit racing catalouge.
Also i have 2, 15x10 steel wheels, and some of the bolt holes are screwed up. They are opened up quite a bit and they dont have the taper any more. Is there any way i can fix this?

Re: Wheel Washers?

The washers are to help with backspace clearance problems.
If your wheels have the stud holes "hogged out" in them, their pretty much junk(and unsafe) unless you want to go the expense of rewelding and machining. I have seen them fixed by individuals but I wouldn't recommend it unless they never see the street.

Re: Wheel Washers?

Another reason for using washers is dissimlar metal corrosion. As example, if you have aluminum wheels and steel lugs (or chrome caps over the lugs) then a corrosive situtation has been setup. The contact point will corrode or rust. Using a steel washer will sacrifice the washer, not the lug.
