Need some advice, engine transmission, upgrade

Ive been looking at my options for upgrading the CJ. The transmission is close to being crap. But the motor is fresly rebuilt with less than 3,000 miles.

We were considering a 4.0 swap but all of those will have well over 100,000 miles on them. Grabing a head off the 4.0 in the cherokee and a t-177 transmission out of a wagoneer seems more temping. Will this all bolt up or need special adaptors? And what tranny would the 4 speed wagoneer have, Dana 300?

Re: Need some advice, engine transmission, upgrade

I dont know much about the head swap.

But the tremak 176 is a good non gaqnny 4 speed tranny, it will bolt to an amc or Ford bellhousing, and will have the round new process adapter on the rear of it if it comes form a 80 or later Full sized Jeep, they never used Dana 300s in Full sized Jeeps

I will assume if the tranny comes from a V8 it will have a really long input shaft and bellhousing spacer, so maybe you shold look for one from a 6cyl wag, cherokee ( fullsized of course) or J truck
