nv4500 and water

I have the chance to get a good deal on a NV4500 from a 96 dodge 1/2 ton 4wd. My question on this is, I have heard that you have to use some special oil that dodge manufactures in it, and it does not react well with water, if water gets in the tranny. Obviously you don't want water in any tranny, but... Does anyone know anything about this, and if so, how do I waterproof a nv4500.

TIA

Re: nv4500 and water

Castrol and pennzoil make the oil. You can get it from GM or Dodge dealers. When the NV 4500 is installed it is completely sealed at the input shaft and it gets sealed from the t-case. All you need to do is run a brether hose up to a high and/or dry spot.

Re: nv4500 and water

It takes a gallon of special Chrystler/GM oil.
There's usually a sticker along with a tag on the filler plug giving the oil part numbers.
About $100 bucks worth...

Re: nv4500 and water

Make sure you use ONLY the oil that is recommended for the NV4500!!! The transmissions has composite syncros that will be damaged if the wrong oil is used. If you have any ? call JB Conversions. 337-625-2379
