Weird rubbing noise coming from clutch I think

OK here's my problem Sometimes when I push in the clutch I get this rubbing sound. At first I thought it was the tranny but it is definitely not a grinding noise and it happens when I am not in gear. Now the real confusing thing is sometimes it won't be making the noise but when I put it in gear before releasing the clutch it will start to make the rubbing noise. The only thing I can think of is maybe the clutch isn't engaging all the way??? And maybe when I am putting it in gear it is moving the whole assembly slightly to start rubbing??? Any one help please!!! Thanks in advance.

How about a cracked input shaft retainer riding against the throw out bearing? Come on you guys with Stick shifts should know the answer to this... all I got is a bunch of AT's!

I'm thinking it's a throw-out bearing going bad. It's a very funky noise that happens at odd times. I would get it a lot when I was coming up to a red light and was going slow with the clutch in. That was when I forst noticed it, but it gets worse.

Re: Weird rubbing noise coming from clutch I think

If its a high pitched squeal when your foot is completely off the clutch then it is the pilot bearing. If you have the clutch about a quarter of the way down and it begins to squeal its the throwout (release) bearing. If the collar on the input shaft (i think its called the bearing retainer)is broke it would also squeal when your foot is off the
clutch.

Re: Weird rubbing noise coming from clutch I think

Thanks for all your help guys, I'll look into replacing the throwout bearing and I might as well swap the clutch as well. Thanks again!
