Is there any problems with a holly carb???

Well after my quadrajet rebuild went south because it was missing a bunch of stuff. My buddy has a holley that he can get me for free. He works with them in marine applications and knows how to rebuild them. This holly is off an old vette. I know i should keep the quadrajet, but i don't have money to buy a new one. what i am worried about is the fuel foaming when i drive over washboard roads. I do'nt have many hills in this neck of the woods. Is there any hints to making this carb good for off road. i don't know exactly waht size the holly is. The engine it is going on is a 4.1L buick v6 that has an edelbrock performer for an intake. Don't worry i am keeping the quadrajet, so maybe when i do get money i can pop that one on.

Thanks

What parts for the Q-J do you need?
I have a few old parts carbs and probably have some used parts if you can let me know what you need.

Holly 4bbl carbs arn't good off road. Why not run a 2bbl?

Re: Is there any problems with a holly carb???

I run a Holley on my engine, and with a few mods it can be made to work very well. I have mine working great on offcamber sections, but found out in Moab, that I would have problems on steep climbs, and desents. Since there really isn't any thing that steep around here, but a lot of off camber sections, it works great for me, and I doubt I will change it to something else, but I still am always tinkering with it, trying to make it better.

Since it came off a vette, you are probably getting a 4bbl carb in the 700-800 cfm range. I think that it would be to much of a carb for the V6, but since it's free I would go ahead and get it. If you ever do a V8 swap you could use it there.

Re: Is there any problems with a holly carb???

Thanks guys for the replys. I might have an even better holly coming my way. My buddy thinks he might have a brand new one. He bought another guys marine mchanic business and the carb is in his work van. we are going to look for it this weekend. All that needs to be done is probably rejet it. Now the question is what size jets to put in the holly? Like i said earlier i am running a 4.1L buick with an edelbrock performer intake and stock cam. I want a happy medium between power/performance and gas mileage.

Thanks

Re: Is there any problems with a holly carb???

my experience with Holley carbs is only with the 2bbl model 2300.

its awsome, everyone has parts for it, its simple easy to rebuild, easy to tune, it never stalled on the rig that donated its engine to my CJ, and I sat it on its tailgate/bumper a few times.

the only drawback i fekt was MPG, it wasnt nearly as effecient as the MC2100, but alot more power, more driveable.
