Bad Smell!!?

Hey, i was towing my friends yj, we broke the brake line offroading, and it lost all the fluid and the brakes locked up. i just had to tow it like 20 feet, and my best tow point is the front tow hooks, so i pulled it in reverse. My tires didnt spin, but there is a really bad smell, and it was at like 2500 rpm. Do you think i damaged my engine and what was the smell most likely.

Re: Bad Smell!!?

If you could see that smell it would be $$$$ wafting out of your Jeep fund..Go heavy duty with the replacement disc. I figure CJDave has made the call.

Re: Bad Smell!!?

Yep, I agree with CJDave, I think you were smelling the clutch burning.
Has you clutch sliped any since that happened?? If so you might be in line for a new clutch.

Re: Bad Smell!!?

Yep thats what Im thinking it is..My buddys nissan pickup did that sometimes when he went offroading. He was pulling me out of being high centered and it started smelling real bad. It took him a bunch of tugs but I finally got out.A little while later he started having problems going into gear..and about after a month maybee it finally went all the way out.

Re: Bad Smell!!?

I have smoked clutches up pretty hard before and not had too much ill effect on it since they were newer clutches. Just pray it didn't glaze your flywheel too bad. Since your clutch is so new I would think that you didn't do much damage to it and things will be fine.
