Looking at buying a \'95

I was looking at a 1995 YJ for sale, Sahara, 4.0L, hardtop, lot of options. He said it had the offroad package, what does that mean, just a set of tow hooks or what. Also where on the rear axle can I look to see if it has trak-loc? What other options did the sahara have?

Re: Looking at buying a \'95

I've never heard of an "Off-Road" package. Perhaps he is talking about the 30" tire package which is no more than a set of 8" rims and perhaps slightly better gearing (which would come with the towing package as well) like 3.54 instead of 3.07. To tell if the rear axle has a Trac-Lock LS, look in the glove-box (actually, look at the inside of the glove-box door). There would be a warning label that says "This vehichle has a traction-aiding device..." Otherwise, put the x-case in neutral and jack the rear axle up so both tires are off the ground. Turn the driveshaft and both tires should turn. Have someone else turn the driveshaft and grab ahold of one of the tires and stop it from turning, it should take considerable effort.

Sometimes in catalogs it says if vehicle is equiped w/ offroad pkg. you will only get 1 1/2" instead of 2 1/2" for ex. If it has the offroad pkg. I'd look and see if it's been wheeling, if the guy has wheeled it a lot I'd stay away form it.

97 TJ 30" ko's stock but not for long
