Buying Info on \'83 CJ7

I'm looking to buy an '83 Cj7 Limited. I dont know alot about the limited's, or jeeps in general, for that matter. I will not be making any major modifications to mkae this an off-roader, but I do want to know what to look for. This jeep has never been off road, and has had alot of work done to it. Mostly body work. New floor boards, no rust anywhere, recently painted. It was undercoated years ago. I know the front end was redone to eliminate steering drift(?), newer tires. I have not driven it yet, but know the guy well, and he says it runs great, no problems w/ start up, no oil or fluid leaks. How much would a fair price be for this, given the small amount of details here? Also, what to keep a "heads Up" for?

Check the frame real close for cracks and/or rust damage. Areas to check are around the spring hangers (front and back), around the steering box, and the very rear of the frame. This is a very common problem, especially in the rust belt.
As far as price goes, you need to give us alot more info... engine, tranny, mileage, condition of interior, hardtop/softtop.

Re: Buying Info on \'83 CJ7

why would you want a jeep if you dont intend on taking it off road? jeeps are alot of work to maintain. they arn't like regular cars. its almost like a hobby. do more research to make sure its to car for you. you will have to make repairs to it there is no getting around that.
