Canadian Jeep = no emmisions?

I'm supposed to be working on my Jeep, but the carb looks so nice all spread out on the dining room table and my mind is racing with new found questions.

Question: I just read that the VIN on my Jeep can confirm if it was built in Canada, a fact that I have long suspected, yet have not been able to prove till now. It is in fact an import! Now, I also read that Canadian Jeeps are cat exempt. Is this true? If so, how can I go about proving this? The post on PartsMike says that I can get an exemption that will allow me to avoid emissions testing!

Any Help?

Fritz

Re: Canadian Jeep = no emmisions?

I live in Canada, a friend of mine had an 82 CJ7 and he didn't have nor needed a cat... He was told he didn't need any for the years of his jeep an older... but after 82 somewhere they have the cats... My 89 Yj requires cats, but I have the 360 and good friends where they give stickers so... I'm an outlaw...

Re: Canadian Jeep = no emmisions?

Sorry for leaving that out. I have a '79 CJ5. How can I find out if emissions were required?
