broken/loose transcase shifter handle

ok so the shifter went limp in my hand and i had to put in 4wd to get up what i just went down in 2wd! my stomach went up in my throat for a minute. i got it back on the shaft by feel and took it apart at home. took boot off and can see whats up now. this seems to be a dealer item eh? the shift handle is square where it goes over the linkage with a metal clip inside- you know what i mean if you have seen before. aparently there was some rubber type material also inside to make it grip? if so it's all gone. what can be done here to fix? just get a new handle?

Re: broken/loose transcase shifter handle

is it possible to drill our the handle and put a helo-coil inserts in it and tap the end of the shaft? they sell the inserts for the b&m shifters at the parts stores that may work

Re: broken/loose transcase shifter handle

thanks v8 for the input!
i lucked out and the jeep dealer here in tucson had the rubber insert in stock. well you know it was $8! yeah i got stung but it fits like a champ and it feels like a new shifter. probably could fabricate the next one.
