Backup lights with manual trans.

I recently bought my first Jeep, a79 CJ7 with a 304. It needs alot of work. I am trying to get it ready for inspection. I got all of the lights working except the backup lights. The wires are not hooked up to the tranny and I cant find anywhere that looks like you can hook up to. What should I be looking for? I am stumped. I can't find it in my Haynes manual. Otherwise I've being having a great time with my Jeep. I've been getting alot of information from this site just by reading posts. I check it everyday.

well cant say for sure.. never had your tranny.. if its the 3 speed.. but on the ones that i have had.. its usually a round hook up.. about the size of a quarter.. and it plugs into the center of it.. one hole.. i cant remember what the t18 had.. its up near the shifter.. to the rear.. i wanna say it had two holes.. or prongs on it.. mmmmm... couldnt you just hook them up to a toggle switch???

Hey Jeepgod is right...of course...where you shift into third gear and to the right there will be the reverse light switch...and yes it has two round flat prongs...atwo female solderless connectors work great...my 78 has the same drivetrain...

Re: Backup lights with manual trans.

Thanks for the response, it has the two prong. It's painted over so it didn't look like a connector. I'll clean it up and see if it works.
