Found a Deal

I a found a little country hardware store near me that sells tow straps of tugboats, the story is that the straps are used one trip on the boats and then are sold, the straps have loops at each end and are about 20ft long by 3 1/2in wide and 3/8in thick, and sell for$ 10.00 each, the straps go fast and the store does not all ways have them stock. I would think you could find straps like these around any port town.

Re: Found a Deal

Nice, I'll look, going to Ft. Lauderdale FL Sunday but I bet I won't find them, most of the tugs down there tow huge ships and would be way too long and beefe, would probably take up an entire jeep.

Re: Found a Deal

Yes I was thinking myself the straps are heave duty, but I could not see them working on a big ship or barge tow. They are great for the Jeep though, they do take up some room, I have three of them and I just can get two under the rear seat. I think I am going to remove the rear seat anyway and make a covered box for my tools and all my other stuff.

Re: Found a Deal

They don't tie the barges together with them, they are cover straps, i.e., they are used 4 at a time on a crane to lift the covers off of the barges to load and unload them. They are not a one time use item but do get left laying around a lot so the deckhands pick them up. I've got a couple in my Jeep and one on the front, it wraps cool around the bumper and tow hooks.

Re: Found a Deal

I have two that I got when I worked construction. Works great to wrap around a tree also. Mine also resides in the back of the Jeep......

it's bent, patched, and wanders, but we love it.....
