steering gear

The steering gear on my 78 cj-5 appears to be leaking. This is about the only thing that I have not rebuilt or replaced.I have lifted it about three inches and put on a drop pitman arm.Giving it my weekly inspection ,I noticed grease on my pitman arm(which is a superlift arm that was not coated or painted with anything ,very dissapointed)My question is can the steering gear be resealed, or do you just throw it away and buy a new one?I would like to keep my pitman arm, because 1.was exppensive 2.had to wait a very long time to get it

Re: steering gear

i recommend trying this stuff:

http://www.lucasoil.com/specs/spec10008.htm

it is carried at most NAPA and CarQuest stores around here. i have not used the steering fluid, but have used the oil additive in a rear axle with leaking seals with good results. hope it works! matt
