Have Fire, Now Distributior Problems

I now have fire from the distributtor,, But now the timing is out. I am not familiar with the 258 is the #1 Cyl the front Cyl or another? I tried to time it on that Cyl but it wont fire up. Wondering if the distributor is in 180 deg Backwards.. Any sugestions??

97 TJ 31's and mostly stock but seeing what I can do about that..

Yep #1 is the first one on a six, Make a big mark at TDC on the harmonic balancer, pull the plug and stick your finger in the hole, bump the starter until you get compression, it will roll past tdc at that time. roll the motor back to tdc, and see that the rotor is pointing at #1 plugwire terminal on the cap. that should get it started. If you pull all the plugs its easier.
