Fire Extinguisher

Okay here it goes. I just bought a 2 1/2 pound chrome fire extingisher for my jeep. I want to mount it to my roll bar in the back of the jeep. It came with a mounting bracket to screw to a wall or what have you. I have padding over my roll bar that I don't want to cut it to screw it to my bar, nor do I want to screw through the pad. Does any one have any ideas? I thought about getting some big zip ties and putting it up that way, but I'm open for any input. Thanks, Top

Re: Fire Extinguisher

How about two hose clamps, with a piece of cloth straping under the clamps keep them from cutting into your padding.

Re: Fire Extinguisher

I found some stainless steel hose clamps at Wal-Mart and used a dremel tool to make an attachment point. I kinda like the way it looks. I just got an automotive(B, C, small) one, that is red. It came with a plastic bracket, like the one that you are installing. I am so happy with it, I will probably get another one from there and mount it on the passenger side(they are small, so 2 won't hurt).

Re: Fire Extinguisher

I'll take a look at that and see if I like that idea, thanks. Mine is a industrial use one, since I work for the school district I can get them for a good price, it came with a metal bracket it's a nice unit. Top

Re: Fire Extinguisher

I mounted mine vertically on the back-side of the passenger-side roll bar, between the roll bar and the front of the rear wheel well (in that "wasted space"). I just secured the bracket (just the bracket, not the extinguisher!) using the nylon straps that came with the Jeep to use with the footman loops. I'm sure you could use anything like a backpack strap or bungee cord too.

Just like our nuke force: Luckily never had to use it ... but there if needed. Now if I could just show that having the fire extinguisher standing ready actually prevented fires from starting in the first place ...

Thanks, looks like that is what I'm going to do. I'll go look around at the hard ware store a little after work. Top

Re: Fire Extinguisher

Bolted mine to the floor between the drivers seat and the side wall. I figured out of sight... less chance for the local homeless to walk it into a pawn shop....

Re: Fire Extinguisher

A bit of advice on mount extingushers, I've got a cheepo automotive one that came w/ a velcoro backed mount, it didn't stick in a roll, luckly it didn't hit me when I rolled. A lot of the mounts I see won't keep an extingusher in a jeep that's bouncing around, for a while I modified that extingusher mount so that it was sucure but then it didn't want to hold it in very well, I just took a piece of duct tape and held it down making sure to duble over one end so that it could easily be riped off in an emergency. Now my extingusher is just put in my center councle.
