Vacuum advance=ported or manifold vacuum?

I reacently did the nutter bypass but never switched the vacuum advance From manifold to ported and was wondering which one is better for the 258. I will be doing the mc2100 swap (Hopefully) soon and was wondering if I should hook the advance up to the carb or just leave it hooked to the manifold like it came from the factory. There has been a lot of descusion about this and from what I have learned it depends on the engine. Thanks.

I need to get a girlfriend I'm getting to close to my jeep.

Re: Vacuum advance=ported or manifold vacuum?

I stick my neck out and say, If your running emmision control...Manifold, I would start that way. (uneless you want to research it).
If your not running emmision control, Ported.

Actually I am not running emmisions but what is the reasoning behind what you said. Sorry of being a pest but I am trying to understand the concept.

Re: Vacuum advance=ported or manifold vacuum?

If you have vacuum switches in the system they use manifold vac as part of the timing control at different times, like deceleration or when the engine starts to overheat.
