Passing along something I just learned

Just thought I would pass along some info that I learned this past weekend. I recently installed a hydraulic assist steering setup on the jeep and found out that the steering gear box that I got was an O ring style box. My original box was a flare fitting box. I was really pissed to just find out this ‘cause the box was sitting in my garage for about 2 weeks while waiting for the hydraulic cylinder. I could have easily figured this out in 2 weeks just by asking a few questions on this board.
I learned that 4wd hardware sells this adapter kit that allows the use of O ring box or flare box. They sell you a set of hoses and this adapter piece. The kit is $50. I was in a big hurry, so I paid the price.
I was under the impression that this adapter was their idea and they had designed this part. I even called AGR for some of their help. Which was none!
Turns out that this adapter, is a fitting that replaces the high-pressure fitting on the P/S pump. What I am trying to explain is that anyone can go to a junkyard and get this fitting off of a vehicle pump that was originally a flare/O ring style system and then just get the hoses from a local auto parts house for their respective box style. I think if I had known this “little” bit of info I may have saved about $20. Not much money, but a whole lot of aggravation that went along with this project. Sorry for the length, but I hope someone gets something from this…

what I did was get one ring hose and one flare hose cut both in half and added a 1/2 brake line press on at carquest between each end. Two set hoses, $ 9.00

NAPA sells fittings that adapt o-ring to flare or flare to o-ring. They cost about $3.
