engine block dowels???

can someone please help me, should there be some type of "dowels" in the back of the block to keep the tranny from twisting? it looks to me like there should be a type of sleeve that a bolt would go through on my 401 th-400 combo, but there weren't any there when i dropped the tranny. can anyone help me to get these "dowels", they are the only thing holding me up, thank you

Re: engine block dowels???

the amc blocks that ive seen have 2, one each side, and they are maybe 7/16 in diameter, and hollow, a bolt goes thru them, they are used to ailinhg the bellhousing better.

you can see the enlarged holes in teh bellhousing for them

Most eng. machine shops and good parts stores keep them. Thats where I've gotten them from before.
