Can someone tell me where the ignition switch is?

Putting my beast back together and I can get it to turn over by "hotwiring" it, but not by turning the key. I figure its a ignition switch problem based on wiring diagrams and stuff I have read here. However, I am not really sure where the ignition switch is or what it looks like. I would appreciate any help

On top of the steering wheel column.

Remove the plastic trip color from around the column.
Look donw the top of the column behind the dash.

It's that plastic piece about 1.5" X 3" with all the wires coming from it.

Re: Can someone tell me where the ignition switch is?

On my 79 CJ7 it's on top of the steering column right under the dash. There are two 5/16" screws on the left side holding it on and the wiring plugs into the top of it. Make sure the switch and the rod are in the right position before you bolt the new one down. The holes in the switch are slotted to get it just right.
