amc 20 in a YJ

looking for inforamtion on swaping an Amc 20 into the rear of my 95 YJ, Got a front Dana 44 and a rear AMC 20 from a 1985 Grand Wagonner for next to nothing, and from all the asking I have done the 20 seems to be just as strong as the 44 so I want to keep it, but havent found any one who has done this before. Just have a few questions to ask

Re: amc 20 in a YJ

it should be as simple as finding the correct pinion angle, welding the spring pads on and getting the brake hydraulics, and parking cables attached.

what else do you need to know?
Ive never done this swap, but im pretty fameliar with FSJ axles.

Re: amc 20 in a YJ

You might end up having a differnt U joint on that end of the drivehsaft , and just custom building a driveshaft to accomodate the rear flange.

but any big driveshaft guys should be able to get you one, try Sixstate.
isnt that the big drive shaft company? I cannot remember

Rocky at Essentially Off Road has a YJ with the same axles you are talking about in it....

Check with him for the parts you need or he can at least point you in the right direction 615-893-8814

Re: amc 20 in a YJ

The original u-joints are the same on SJs and YJs, it should fit right on. The length of the model 20 pinion may be longer than the model 35, so it still may need to be shortened. Hope this helps, good luck!
