Is this too much $ for this jeep?

Well, I haven't finished one jeep yet and I am thinking about buying another. The question is this...and this is all I know. It's an 1989 wrangler 5 speed with power steering, soft top and 128k on the motor. The jeep is super clean, straight and a so-cal jeep so no rust. The local 4x4 yard is selling it and they want 4k. Is this a good deal. Oh yeah, the jeep is 4 cylinder.
any help much appreciated before this fool and his money are parted.

Re: Is this too much $ for this jeep?

I think that is a little high? for a four cylinder. do you have a four cylinder jeep? have you drove a four cylinder jeep? the reason why i say this is because they are a little dogish from what i hear especially on the free ways. What are your expectations with the jeep? v8 upgraded axles? what the reason why i ask is because if you are eventually going to a v8. a four banger would not be that bad assuming u replace the tranny to! the one advantage of buying the four banger is that u can get a better axle ratio! if 4.10 usaually stock. the only advantage about a 6 ccylinder is if you upgrade you can sell the the 6 for more money than the 4. but if you are planning on upgrading axles and motor it really does not matter 4 or 6. but it does matter your priorities! if you are more concerned with the motor than get a four cyliner as it will have better gears but wrangler axles will not like the abuse of the v8!
I do not think that buying a 4 cylinder jeep is bad, but if i was going to guy a 4 cylinder the reasons would be uprgrading motor to a v8 and i will be able to get by better with the axle ratio and the v8. Four cylinders tend to be cheaper to Buy! Also that price depends on the area i was searching the web and noticed that prices for jeeps on the west coast were than the east coast!! one more thing to consider is a 91 with the 4.0 motor they are getting cheaper by the day in my area they are a little under 6 grand! thats not bad considering what they are! these are just a few options that u have!! the main thing is what do u think u will want out of the JEEP!

Re: Is this too much $ for this jeep?

4k is a little bit much, i bought 3 years ago, an 88 wrangler laredo with 80K miles in mint shape for $3000, and this last november i bought a 1995 wrangler what was in totaly mint shape with 60K for $5700, but an idea, i think i got lucky on both tho..
