CJ tailgate on YJ tub - How do you open it?

I'm wanting to put a CJ tailgate on my YJ, and have read a few posts and a website on it. But I'm curious, since it doesn't have a handle or latch, how do you open it?

the CJ tailgate opens by flipping up the two latches inside the tub. you have to open your rear window to get to it.

if its clean, I aint having fun!

Re: CJ tailgate on YJ tub - How do you open it?

Okay, I knew that they use latches on the inside(should of wrote that in my post), and I know you need to open the rear window to get to them, but how do you open the rear window when the tailgate is shut? I know on my YJ the tailgate must be opened and then the rear window comes out of it's channel.

A CJ is opposite of a YJ. The lift gate opens before the tailgate and closes after the tailgate.

because the yj's.. put the top behind the tailgate.. and the cj's are on the outter side of the tailgate.. that is why..

Re: CJ tailgate on YJ tub - How do you open it?

Okay. So right now on my YJ I have to open the tailgate, and then slide the rear window out of it's channel. But on a CJ, you slide the window out of it's channel first, and then open the tailgate? Is this right?

Re: CJ tailgate on YJ tub - How do you open it?

I am going to do this mod. Can't you just unzip the back window and reach in through the unzipped zipper and unlatch the tail gate?

Re: CJ tailgate on YJ tub - How do you open it?

no.. that piece of straight channel gets in the way.. of closing the tailgate.. like i said.. i had to turn it around.. or something to get it to work.. but it works just fine without it there also..
