Banjo bolt leaking after new ss line install

I'm installing new extended SS braided brake lines. After tightening to torque spec the banjo bolt is leaking. Did I miss anything? Any tricks I need to know? Thanks.

do you still have those copper washers?

Re: Banjo bolt leaking after new ss line install

I'll ask an obvious question - did you install a new crush washer a the caliper? Always use new crush washers when you remove the brakeline from the caliper.

Is it leaking at the caliper or where the brakeline enters the block that the banjo bolt goes through?

On the last two sets of SS brakelines I have installed, both of the front brakelines leaked where the hose entered the little block at the end. Luckily, there was a nut there to tighten up the compression fitting - just a nudge with a wrench fixed it both times.

It could be that the block needs to be flipped over if it will fit either way.

Hope that helps!

Ahhh...er...copper washer??!? crush washer??!? Didn't see any washers. Hmmm. Maybe they're still on the old line... Maybe too much beer... So are they the same? Copper or crush? Where do I get new ones? Thanks guys.

You get the new ones at any auto parts store. Don't reuse the old ones, they're "crushed" already, and may not seal well. New ones are only like $0.10 each anyway. One on top and one on bottom of the line, like a gasket, which is what they are.

Re: Banjo bolt leaking after new ss line install

I found the old washers but only one per side between the banjo bolt head and the line fitting block. The original factory block has spiral groves imprinted around the seal area on both sides and the same on the caliper too. Since I didn't have new washers yet I tried to flip the old ones around and install it like that. One side seems to seal ok but the other wheel leeks still and it's between the block and the caliper where is no washer anyway. The brake lines I got just have a brass block on them with smooth sides. No grooves. Is this how yours was too? Does it supposed to seal well still? I'll get the washers but since it doesn't seem to leak at the washer but rather at the caliper hole I'm wondering if I got a cheap line kit? How did yours look like? Thanks.

I don't recall right now but I'll check the receipt at home tonight. I know that the whole kit (2 front and one rear) was around $60.

Hey, I checked at home. I got the extended lines from http://www.jdsoffroad.com. They were around $60 for all three, but I did have a hard time getting one front side to seal well.
